The launching of Phom Language Promotion and Translation Cell was held on 6th March 2025 at Yingli College, Longleng with Deputy Commissioner Longleng, W. Manpai Phom, NCS, as the special guest.
Principal, Yingli College, Dr. T. Temsu Imti in his keynote address spoke on the implementation of regional languages in educational institutions as per NEP 2020. He encouraged the use of common Phom dialect among students and preservation of mother tongue. The Phom Language Promotion and Translation Cell was launched with the hope that it will lead to the introduction of Phom language in the college as a subject.
The Special Guest of the program, Deputy Commissioner Longleng, W. Manpai Phom emphasised on the importance of language and its unifying factor. He encouraged the students to carry forward the aims and objectives of the Cell and to leave a legacy of excellence for the upcoming generation of students.
In his short speech, the President of Phom People’s Council, Y. B. Angam expressed his gratitude for establishing the cell and also commented on the progress of the college, which was established in 1992. He encouraged the students to promote and propagate their mother tongue.
The programme was chaired by Assistant Professor, Department of English, Manngai H Phom. Vice Principal, Yingli College Dr. B. Henshet Phom delivered the vote of thanks.
