PM SHRI GHS DC colony, Peren celebrated its 50th year of existence on 9th May 2025 with Deputy Chief Minister, T. R. Zeliang and Advisor for School Education & SCERT, Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, as the special guest and the guest of honour respectively.
T.R. Zeliang, in his speech, said, the celebration is not just marking 50 years of the school's existence but celebrating 5 decades of unwavering dedication, service and contribution to the people of Peren Town.
The celebration makes it even more special is the school's recent upgradation to a Government High school in 2021, which is a significant milestone that reflects its steady growth and determination through the years. The school was established in 1975 as a Primary School ADC Colony and the finally renamed as DC Colony School. In a Town that is sparsely populated and already served by one Government High School, which celebrated its Platinum Jubilee in the year 2022, it is only through sheer dedication and discipline that this school maintained its enrollment, paving the way for upgradation to a Government Middle School and subsequently to a High School.
Zeliang said, one fascinating statistic he came across is that it took 33 years to go from GPS to GMS and an impressive 13 years only to achieve upgradation to GHS. This remarkable progress speaks volumes about the commitment of the School's faculty and management. In this regard, he extended his heartfelt congratulations and sincere appreciation to all the faculty members and the school management board.
Zeliang urged everyone to take a moment to remember and honour the past teaching and non-teaching staff whose selfless service and dedication helped the school to grow from strength to strength over the years. This achievement would not have been possible without the unwavering efforts of the teachers, whose dedication and sincerity have laid the foundation of the school’s success and the parents, whose trust and support have been the backbone of the institute and most importantly the students, past and present, whose achievement continue to be the guiding light for the school.
Education is the cornerstone of a progressive society, and GHS DC Colony Peren continues to be the cradle of knowledge, nurturing young minds from the town and neighbouring villages, Zelaing added. He further challenged the teachers to continue embracing modern teaching methods, innovative thinking and critical learning strategies to prepare students for the challenges of a global future and inspire the students not just to seek jobs but to create them to be changemakers in our community and beyond. High school is a formative and most important phase in students' lives; what we instil in them now will shape their future and who they become in life, Zeliang added.
T. R. Zeliang said that, he was honored to have young and dynamic leader, Advisor for school Education, Kekrielhoulie Yhome in the Golden Jubilee celebration, who deeply committed to transforming the education landscape of our state and encouraged the school to take the opportunity to engage with him and seek the support needed for further growth and development of the school.
He also encouraged the students to strive for excellence and greatness and told the students to have a positive and undying spirit to be on par with the best schools and institutes in the state. Success is not determined by where you study, but by how determined you are to succeed.
Zeliang called the gathering to rededicate ourselves to the values the school upholds and resolve to do better and achieve things together in the field of education. He encouraged them to dream bigger for the next 59 years and to continue to illuminate minds and ignite dreams. And celebrate the Jubilee with pride and march forward with renewed hope and purpose for even greater achievements by GHS DC colony Peren and aim to make Peren Town the educational hub of Peren district.
Advisor for School Education & SCERT, Kekrielhoulie Yhome, Deputy Commissioner Peren, Hiazu Meru and President, Zeliang Students Union Nagaland also spoke during the programme.
Highlights of the events were "Dance to Your Own Beat" by the pre-primary class, Living Hope by the Jubilee Choir and a drum ensemble by the students.
