A review meeting of Pradhan Mantri Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) was held under the chairmanship of Union Secretary Fisheries, Government of India at Sushma Swaraj Bhavan, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi held on 11th September 2024. Speaking on the occasion, Commissioner & Secretary, Law & Justice and Fisheries & Aquatic Resources Nagaland, Y. Kikheto Sema, IAS stated that about 12% of the potential area of Nagaland has been utilized till date for Fisheries development and urged to provide more areas for development.
Kikheto also stated that with the culmination of PMMSY scheme during the year 2024-25, he suggested the following components should be incorporated in the new guidelines for the coming 5 years:-
1. Integrated cluster fish farming with frog, crab, snail, duckery, poultry, piggery, diary etc. with infrastructure facilities such as pack house, feed mill especially for the North-Eastern States and Nagaland in particular.
2. Fisheries eco-tourism should be encouraged in North-Eastern States with special reference to Nagaland.
3. Farmer/Entrepreneur hands on training in the farm and exposure to other States should be encouraged and funded.
4. To provide enough funds for Quality fish market/Kiosk, Recreational Fisheries, Brood Bank etc.
5. The cost norms of different components should be revised and the Farmer’s contribution should also be reduced especially for the North-Eastern States and Nagaland in particular.
6. Component of renovation of old ponds and tanks should be incorporated.
Union Secretary Dr. Abhilaksh Likhi, IAS assured that the matter will be looked into it favourably. Sema was accompanied by the Director, Rongsennungba and Dy. Director, Dr. Rongsenkumzuk.
Sema also called upon the Union Secretary Law & Justice, Dr Rajiv Mani on 10th September 2024 and requested for early release of fund for on-going District Court at Mon and Noklak, and for the up gradation of old District Court. He also stated that land acquisition is being finalized for the remaining new districts of Shamator, Tseminyu and Niuland and urged the Government of India to consider for construction of District Court in the coming year.
