The programme was held in consonance with the resolution adopted during the SDPDB meeting in January 2026, whereby the SDPDB Educational Trust Fund for the current year was earmarked to recognise outstanding Government and private schools, along with meritorious students from Government schools within Pughoboto Sub-Division.
Under the “Award for Academic Excellence 2025–2026” in the Government School category, Government High School, Lazami was adjudged the Best Performing Government School in the HSLC Examination 2026 for securing a 100 percent pass percentage and recording the best overall performance among Government schools under the subdivision.
Likewise, New Foundation School, Pughoboto received the Award for Academic Excellence in the Private School category for achieving a 100 percent pass result and emerging as the top performing private school in the subdivision.
The SDPDB also felicitated HSLC first rank holders Vitovi, Katoni and Jekito from Government High School Ighanumi with cash awards in recognition of their outstanding academic achievements.
The Board commended the dedication and tireless efforts of the assistant headmaster, teaching staff and students in maintaining high standards of education and producing commendable results.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Sukhato A Sema, MLA and Chairman SDPDB Pughoboto, congratulated the schools and students for bringing laurels to the subdivision. Emphasising perseverance, sincerity and hard work as the keys to success, he remarked that “the fruit of hard labour is always sweet.”
He further highlighted that the SDPDB Educational Trust Fund was a collective monthly contribution made by board members to support underprivileged students and strengthen the educational environment in the subdivision. He also lauded Government Higher Secondary School Pughoboto as one of the best Government Higher Secondary Schools in the state and encouraged students to enrol in the institution.
A short speech was delivered by Yekivi P Sumi, President of Sumi Aphuyemi Kiphimi Kuqhakulu (SAKK), who described the event as a celebration of the hard work, sincerity and dedication demonstrated by both students and teachers, especially the awardees. He stated that the achievements of the students had set a high benchmark for the entire subdivision and appreciated the continuous encouragement and support extended by parents and the MLA towards promoting academic excellence.
Adding to the celebration, Insightknots, a social group formed by 13 friends on August 7, 2009, also extended support to deserving students through its “Mission Help” initiative. The group, which began sponsoring students in 2015, has since 2023 undertaken to sponsor one Class XI student every year who secures the highest percentage in the HSLC examination among students enrolled in Aphuyemi Government High Schools. Under the initiative, Kumghato from GHSS Laza and Vitovi from GHSS Ighanumi were presented cash awards of ₹10,000 each.
The felicitation programme was led by Khekaho Achumi, Principal of GHSS Pughoboto, while the invocation prayer was pronounced by Sulito Swu Achumi, Associate Pastor Women, Mishilimi Baptist Church.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Meyazungba Jamir, Vice Chairman SDPDB and ADC Pughoboto, who congratulated the students and specially commended the teachers serving in Government schools for their dedication and commitment. He assured continued support to the student community and appreciated the contributions of Heads of Departments and the MLA for championing a people-first administration. He also called upon civil society organisations and parents to put in greater effort towards the education and welfare of students.
Earlier in the day, the SDPDB meeting was chaired by MLA, Dr Sukhato A Sema and co-chaired by ADC Meyazungba Jamir. The meeting began with a review of the previous SDPDB meeting, while the main agenda discussed was the establishment of a Health Sub-Centre at Ighavito village. The Board resolved to take up the matter with the SMO Pughoboto.
During the meeting, Viwoto Zhimomi, the newly posted Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer (SDAO), Pughoboto, was also introduced to the Board.
A major highlight of the programme was the distribution of brush cutters to five beneficiaries under Pughoboto Subdivision by the MLA. Welcoming the new SDAO, Dr Sema reiterated that the goals of SDPDB Pughoboto remained accountability, people-first administration, secular social justice and delivering quality education, healthcare and improved road connectivity to all 24 villages under the subdivision.
He further informed that a new natural farming scheme would soon be implemented under the supervision of the incumbent SDAO, as the Government has sanctioned seven cluster villages under the initiative.
The meeting concluded on a positive and forward-looking note, reaffirming the SDPDB Pughoboto’s collective commitment towards educational advancement, people-centric governance and inclusive development across the subdivision. With recognition accorded to deserving schools and students, along with renewed focus on healthcare, agriculture and infrastructure, the programme reflected the Board’s vision of empowering the community through accountability, cooperation and sustained support for future generations.
