Sekrenyi-cum-Mini Hornbill 2025 was celebrated at the Heritage Village, Kisama on 25th February with Advisor, Prison, Printing & Stationery, Er. Kropol Vitsu as the Host.
Speaking on the occasion, Er. Kropol Vitsu said that Sekrenyi is a time of cleansing and purification, it is a time of rededication, to pray for blessings for the whole year round. He also highlighted on the importance of Sekrenyi and how every village celebrate it. Mentioning particularly his native village, he mentioned that Viswema village celebrate this festival in the month of December (between the 15th to 31st), however acknowledging the wisdom of the elders, the common Sekrenyi festival is being celebrated on 25th February every year uniting all the Angami villages on a particular date. He urged the youths to conserve our traditions and culture which is our unique identity.
Er. Kropol Vitsu also emphasised on the importance of celebrating Sekrenyi Festival as a Mini Hornbill Festival, stating that this would showcase our tradition and culture to the outside world. He urged the Nagas to be hospitable and to warmly welcome the tourists visiting the State.
In the programme, Rev. Fr. Dr. George Pezalhukho Rino invoked God’s blessings, the welcome address was delivered by General Secretary, APO, Keneilesa Neikha, Phichu ja (Blessings from elders) by Kruvil Kikhi and a folk song was presented by Khrietuo Mezhu & Co.
Visosietuo Vupru blew the traditional horn and in the later part of the programme, an exhibition of Angami ethnic cultural and indigenous games like war cry, tati pfe, folksong, phrida, traditional fire making, tholi etc. were showcased.
