A Table Top Exercise on earthquake and extreme weather disaster scenarios was conducted at the DC’s Conference Hall, Peren, on 29th April 2026, as part of the 8th Edition of the Statewide Mock Drill, NEPEx 2026.
The programme began with an introduction to the NEPEx Statewide Mega Mock Exercise and the Incident Response System (IRS) by Deputy Commissioner & Chairman, DDMA Peren, Hiazu Meru. He highlighted the roles and responsibilities under IRS and emphasized the importance of coordination among departments and timely response during disasters. He also briefed on the conduct of the mock drill, stating that unlike previous years, where the exercise was held at a single location, as per the instructions of the NDRF, this year it will be conducted at two locations: Peren Town at the district level and Jalukie Town at the sub-divisional level. He further informed that the simulation is based on a 7.7 magnitude earthquake with its epicentre at Piphema, placing Peren district within a 30 km impact zone, and added that a night operation component has also been introduced this year.
SDO (Civil), Peren, Sentilong Ozukum presented the mock drill scenario, while District Commandant, Home Guards & Civil Defence, Peren, Vingutuo Angami demonstrated an “Air Raid” simulation under the code name Operation Night Guard, showcasing coordinated response mechanisms.
DPA, DDMA Peren, Kedigong briefed on the programme and operational action sequence to be followed during the conduct of the mock exercise. A demonstration on wireless communication was also conducted by OC Wireless, highlighting the role of communication systems during emergencies.
In his concluding remarks, the Deputy Commissioner reiterated the importance of such exercises in enhancing preparedness and resilience. He stressed the need for all personnel to be well-prepared and aware of their roles under IRS, and emphasized that volunteers should simulate realistic scenarios during the exercise. He further informed that a debriefing session will be held virtually after the exercise and urged all officers from line departments to join positively.
