The Department of Statistics, in collaboration with the IQAC, Kohima Science College, Jotsoma, organized a Three-Day National Workshop on “Introduction to SPSS Interface and Data Handling Practice” from November 10 to 12, 2025. The workshop was sponsored by the Department of Higher Education, Nagaland, and aimed to equip participants with practical skills in data management and statistical analysis using SPSS software.

The inaugural programme on 10th November was graced by Dr. K. Nishena Nekha, Additional Director, Directorate of Higher Education, Nagaland, as the invited guest. In his address, she spoke about the history and development of SPSS software, highlighting its growing importance for students and researchers in various disciplines.

Delivering the Keynote Address, Dr. Pallab Changkakoti, Head of the Department of Statistics, KSCJ, emphasized the need for developing a data-driven mindset and the role of SPSS in promoting evidence-based research and decision-making.

The Principal of Kohima Science College, Dr. Temjenwabang remarked that SPSS is a crucial tool in today’s data-centric world and that organizing this workshop has been a long-standing desire of the college, aimed at enhancing research competence and analytical skills among faculty and students.

The inaugural session was chaired by Dr. Lilongchem Thyug, Coordinator, IQAC, Kohima Science College, while the Vote of Thanks was delivered by Tzudina Jamir, Assistant Professor, Department of Statistics.

A total of 47 participants, including teachers and research scholars took part in the workshop. The resource persons included Dr. Sulaxana Bharali (C.K.B. Commerce College, Jorhat), Dr. Arnab Narayan Patowary (Department of Fisheries Extension, Economics, and Statistics, Assam Agricultural University, Raha, Nagaon, Assam), and Dr. Karuna Gogoi (Department of Community Medicine, NIMSR, Kohima, Nagaland).

On the final day, the Three-Day National Workshop on Introduction to SPSS Interface and Data Handling Practice concluded with a valedictory programme held at the College Conference Hall. The event marked the successful culmination of the workshop, during which the Principal of Kohima Science College distributed certificates to all the participants. The programme highlighted the enthusiastic participation of attendees and acknowledged the dedicated efforts of the organizing committee and resource persons, making the workshop a memorable and enriching learning experience.

The workshop provided participants with hands-on experience in SPSS, focusing on data input, management, statistical analysis, and interpretation, thereby fostering a deeper understanding of data handling practices in research.
