A vibrant Tribal Cultural Mosaic was held on 6th December 2025 at NSF Solidarity Park, Kohima, organised by the Department of Tribal Affairs during the 26th edition of Hornbill festival on the occasion of the Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh celebration. The event was graced by the Minister for Forest, Environment, Climate Change & Village Guards, C.L. John, as the Special Guest.
In his address, C.L. John highlighted that although Nagaland boasts a rich cultural tapestry of languages, traditions, and rituals, unity among the people continues to be a challenge. He cautioned that divisions and “isms” within Naga society remains a barrier to true peace, stating that only when these divisions are overcome we can coexistence with harmony. Reflecting on the “Festival of Festivals,” he lauded the vision of the Chief Minister, Dr. Neiphiu Rio, adding that the Hornbill Festival has enabled the world to recognize the Naga identity and its unique culture on the global stage.
Advisor for Tribal Affairs and Elections, H. Tovihoto Ayemi, who was the Chief Host of the event, expressed gratitude to the Department of Tribal Affairs for providing a platform to showcase the rich art and culture of the Nagas. He underscored the significance of the Hornbill Festival in fostering unity and guiding Naga society toward a harmonious and progressive future. Ayemi further appreciated the participants coming from various Districts across the State to display their creativity and talent.
Earlier, Secretary, Department of Tribal Affairs, Angelina Tajen (IAS) delivered the welcome address. Pastor Bendangtemsu of New Capital Baptist Church invoked God’s blessings, while Along Jamir led the National Anthem and also presented a folk-fusion performance together with Ajung. The vote of thanks was proposed by TL. Kiusumong (NCS), Joint Secretary, Department of Tribal Affairs, and the programme was compered by Medolenuo Ambrocia Loucù.
Altogether, 15 tribes participated in the Tribal Cultural Mosaic, celebrating unity through the richness of Naga traditions.
