The Yimkhiung Union Kohima celebrated Tsakran Nyan festival under the theme “Reminiscing Our Cultural Heritage” at the State Academy Hall, Kohima, on 7th September 2024. The event was graced by, Advisor for Fire & Emergency Services, Home Guards & Civil Defence, and Relief & Rehabilitation, S. Kiusumew Yimkhiung, as the special guest.
In his address, the Advisor highlighted that the festival, traditionally celebrated after the millet harvest, should inspire renewed enthusiasm for millet cultivation. He also urged unity among the Yimkhiung tribe, particularly the Chirr-speaking community, and encouraged the youth to work hard and strive for success in competitive exams.
Speeches were also delivered by, Advisor for Youth Resources and Sports, S. Keoshu Yimchunger, former VCC of Salomi village, Shophu, Finance Secretary of the Yimkhiung Tribal Council, M. Yinkiu, and former Chairman of the Kohima Municipal Council, Vipopal Kintso. Superintendent of Police (MT), Er. Muleki explained the significance of the Tsakran Nyan festival.
The celebration featured cultural songs and dances performed by Alemla and H. Shehtsulam.
