The Vegetable Collection Centre and Seed Bank at Nsong under Tening Block, Peren was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner, Peren, Hiazu Meru, on April 16, 2026 at the Vegetable Collection Centre near Pro Rural Office, Nsong Town.

In his address, DC Peren, Hiazu Meru, lauded the efforts of Pro Rural and the local community, stating that such initiatives would enhance market access for farmers and promote self-reliance in the agriculture sector.

Prof. Dr. Akali Sema, who attended the program as Guest of Honour stressed the importance of preserving indigenous seeds and promoting agricultural sustainability.

In his keynote address, Director, Pro Rural, Paul Lokho emphasized the importance of farmer collectives and sustainable agricultural practices. The CEO, FPO Nsong Village, Joshila Newme presented the activities of FPO.

Delivering the welcome address, Kanzeirang of Nsong Town Council welcomed the gathering and underscored the significance of the initiative in strengthening the livelihood of local farmers.

Short speeches were delivered by EAC, Ihoilung Chuilo, Lesehu Meru and Vikhuli Achumi, who appreciated the initiative and its positive impact on rural livelihoods.

The programme featured a folk dance performance by Nsong Village Youth. The inaugural program was chaired by Tolivi N. Sumi, Environment Coordinator, Pro Rural. Invocation was proposed by the Associate Pastor of Nsong Town Baptist Church and concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Kiusang S. Tikhir, Agri Expert (APPI), Pro Rural.

Later, the Seed Bank was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Akali Sema. The event includes interaction, exhibition, and sale of traditional seeds and vegetables, and culminated with a community lunch at Town Hall, Nsong.
