Watershed Yatra campaign was conducted by the Department of Land Resources, Government of Nagaland at Anakiyimesen Village, Mokokchung on 17th February 2025.
The welcome address was delivered by the Chairman of Anakiyimesen Village Council and keynote address presented by the District Project Officer, Land Resources Department, Sentinungla.
The Land and Water Conservation Pledge was administered by the SDO (Civil) & Border Magistrate, Tuli, Nukshimatong, NCS. In his speech Nukshimatong raised awareness about the detrimental effects of human activities on the ecosystems. He highlighted how unscientific coal mining, single-use plastics like packed mineral water bottles, polythene bags and the use of chemical weedicides and pesticides are causing significant harm to water bodies, soils, and plant life. He emphasised that change must begin at the individual level and urged the villagers to cease the use of these harmful products and practices. He called for collective action to ensure the well-being of the community and the sustainable development of the region.
The event also featured cultural performances, including a skit by students of the Government Primary School and a folk dance by the Youth Department of Anakiyemsen Baptist Church. Jentiren Jamir, Femina Miss India Nagaland 2024, also delivered a short speech, inspiring the audience with her message of community engagement and environmental stewardship.
Other segments of this campaign involved activities such as the display and sale of Self-Help Group (SHG) products, showcasing local craftsmanship and entrepreneurship. The afternoon session focused on Shramdaan activities, where the Anakiyimsen watershed committee were engaged in soil and moisture conservation works near the Watershed site.
The closing phase, Lokarpan, involved the handing over of assets related to the Watershed site by the DPO, Mokochung.
