A 2-Day Workshop on "CORS and Geoid Model Applications in Land Surveying"
jointly organised by the Urban Development Department & Water Resources Department, Nagaland in collaboration with the Survey of India, Assam & Nagaland and Tripura, Meghalaya, Mizoram Geospatial Directorate, Guwahati was held at the Conference Hall of the Chief Engineer, Water Resources on 12th June, 2025.
CORS (Continuously Operating Reference Stations) and geoid models play crucial roles in modern land surveying, providing high-precision positioning and elevation data. CORS networks offer real-time and post-processed GNSS observations for accurate surveying, while geoid models allow conversion between ellipsoidal and orthometric heights, ensuring accurate land surveying and mapping.
Chief Engineer, Water Resources, Er. Thepfusalie Guozi in his inaugural address expressed his gratitude to the Survey of India for making themselves available to impart training for the young aspiring officers. He mentioned that the department is fortunate to have very qualified trainers from the Survey of India and will be looking forward to get more insights on latest scientific developments in GPS technology. He said that Water Resources and Urban development needs to coordinate more so that, issues can be handled, example like the climate change and other major challenges, he also said that the department should support each other and converge in the departmental activities.
Additional Director, Urban Development, Tarachu Filtu in his address said that this training will be useful in various applications and enhance the working system of the department. He advised the participants to make the best use of the opportunity, adding that ‘Learning is a lifelong process’ and it is important learn new technologies and keep updating one’s knowledge and skills. He said that the more we learn the more value addition we generate and contribute to the department.
Later, online presentation was delivered by Director, A&N and TMMz GD, Uday Shanker Prasad, on "NAKSHA" in perspective of SoI, Officer Surveyor, A&N and TMMz GD, Sankar Nath Dey presented on Survey of India and use of CORS, Officer Surveyor, A&N and TMMz GD Gitartha Talukdar, presented on use of Geoid.
