Zeliang thanked the Peren Forest Division, District Administration and all the HoDs for organizing and celebrating this noble cause. Speaking in line with the theme, he said it calls for urgent action to address one of the most pressing environmental challenges of our time.

Nagaland is blessed with pristine forests, rich biodiversity and a deep-rooted connection to nature, yet, our beautiful state is not immune to the growing menace of plastic waste, Zeliang said. He also said, from urban areas to rural villages, plastic bags, bottles and packaging are increasingly polluting the environment, however, to a certain extent, this can be attributed to our nonchalant attitude towards this menace and our differences to fight against pollution. The solution begins with awareness, action and accountability and each of us, be it government officials, community leaders and citizens, we must take proactive steps to reduce plastic consumption, Zeliang added.

Stating that, plantation drive initiative is not just symbolic but is a commitment to a greener and healthier Nagaland, he said trees are nature’s warriors, they combat pollution, provide clean air, and restore ecosystems, and this act should encourage and educate the community on the importance of tree and forest conservation and afforestation.

He also said the global fight against plastic pollution and disseminating the significance of a greener forest should start right in our homes and in our workplaces. "As we plant these saplings today, let them symbolize our commitment to a plastic-free future and cleaner air. Let us remember that protecting our environment is not a choice, it is a duty we owe to our children and to the generations yet to come", Zeliang added.

Further, he called upon the gathering to collectively work towards ending any kinds of pollution that is detrimental to Mother Earth and the human race.
