The 2nd Edition of Youth Cultural Fest was successfully organized by Longleng Town Students Union under the theme “Know Thy Roots” on 2nd April 2026 at Public Ground, Longleng, bringing together young participants in a vibrant celebration of culture, tradition, and unity.
The event showcased a variety of competitions among youth from the 11 town wards, including cultural dances, folklore performances, war cries, fat-eating competition and other traditional activities, reflecting the community’s rich heritage.
The program began with traditional performances and included the Beating of the Log Drum by Yongnyah Hongnyü Union, Longleng, setting a powerful and cultural tone for the event.
The Special Guest, EAC Imkongnukla Ao, in her address spoke on the importance of skill development programs. She encouraged the youth to make the most of every opportunity available to them and emphasized the value of humility in work. She highlighted the importance of self-sustenance, urging young people to work hard, remain discipline and strive for continuous growth.
She also emphasized the importance of youth staying connected to their cultural roots by learning about their traditions and heritage. She described the celebration as a meaningful platform for cultural preservation and awareness. Encouraging unity, she called upon the youth to promote their language and avoid divisions based on tribe or tribalism.
Major Shubham Pakhare of the 12th Assam Rifles, ‘The Daredevils’, gracing the closing ceremony as the Valedictory guest and encouraged the youth to uphold discipline, unity and dedication in all aspects of life.
The enthusiastic participation of the youth in the event reflected their strong commitment to preserving their cultural identity. It not only served as a platform for showcasing talent but also reinforced the importance of tradition, unity and community spirit.
The dignitaries appreciated the efforts of the organizers and participants and encouraged the youth to carry forward the essence of their traditions and cultural values in the long run.
The overall Champion for the fest was Shamkang ward.
