Kohima Science College, Jotsoma held their 59th Parting Social at the Auditorium, Kohima Science College, Jotsoma on 30th April 2022 with Advisor to the Chief Minister of Nagaland and Associate Vice President, Athletics Federation of India, Abu Metha as the guest speaker.

Metha addressing the students pointed out that the College is more than six decades old, as old as the State itself. Terming it as an iconic institution he stated that students moulded and groomed from the College have gone on to become some of the nation builders of the State and country as well, and that the present students have high ideals and high examples to live up to. With the College motto, ‘Omnia Vincit Labor,’ Latin for ‘Labour Overcomes Everything’, he told the students that if they put in the hard work, success cannot escape them.

Metha stated that they are lucky and fortunate to be studying in the capital Kohima, a city that has changed the course of world history, as during the Second World War, Japanese forces overran Asia to get into the Indian subcontinent but they were halted at Kohima. With around 600 students that will be graduating this year from the College, he encouraged the students saying that if each one can change ten lives and those ten lives change another ten lives and so on, in about five generations time, he said they can change the lives of about 60 million people, equivalent to the present population of France.

The Advisor while stating that with India, China and Asia today being the world’s biggest economy with the world’s highest purchasing power, and the coming century expected to be the Asian Century, and with the State geographically located right in the middle of that, he said that that can be one of our greatest strengths. He exhorted the students to have the confidence and bravery to make a mark.

Metha summed it up by exhorting the students that with the great advances made in Information Technology coupled with the favourable conditions of studying in an iconic institution and place and the advantages of living in the ‘Asian Century,’ they can go and change lives. Though they may be faced with challenges and difficulties, he encouraged them to cling on to hope and never give up and keep moving forward, which he said can ensure that the future generation will live in a world that is much better than the one today.

On the occasion, the College also felicitated students who excelled in various competitions and extra-curricular activities held at the State and national levels.
