The Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, Nagaland, observed the 15th ‘World Rabies Day’ under the theme RABIES: FACTS NOT FEAR with the rest of the world, on 28th September 2021. It stated that the global COVID-19 pandemic has raised many doubts and misconceptions about vaccination in general and there has been hesitancy in the roll-out of the COVID-19 vaccines in many countries and many people are afraid to get vaccinated. The Department said that for rabies, it is nothing new, as fears, misconceptions and misinformation about the disease and its prevention dates back hundreds of years. For that reason, the year’s theme is focused on sharing facts about rabies and not spreading fear about the disease by relying on misinformation and myths, it added. The department of A.H. & V.S in the districts celebrated the ‘World Rabies Day’ by conducting Awareness Program to raise awareness and educate others about rabies – a 99% fatal, yet 100% preventable disease and giving out Free anti-rabies vaccines to the pet lovers. Altogether, 2024 dogs were vaccinated against Rabies. (DIPR)
