ATMA Chiephobozou Block under Kohima District conducted a demonstration on cultivation practices of winter crops from 28th to 29th October 2022 at Ziezou and Zhadima villages respectively. A hands-on demonstration on nursery bed preparation was conducted. The importance of site selection, land preparation, spacing, management, and advantages of a nursery bed were discussed. The farmers were also informed of the transplanting time which can be done after 30-40 days when the seedlings attain 3-4 leaves. Integrated pest management for winter crops was also conducted where the effective and environmentally sensitive approach to pest management was highlighted. Methods of selecting a good variety of disease-free seeds, soil solarization, weed control, and the importance of growing trap crops along with the main crop were also shared. Two groups of women farmers were mobilized. The farmers were apprised of the concept of forming a food security group and the importance of maintaining an activity register. Winter seeds were distributed to the participants after a brief interaction. The resource persons were Benjile Semy ATM, Theruovinuo Metha ATM, Dziesevotuo John Belho ATM, and Atuno Zinyu BTM of Chiephobozou block. The demonstration programme was attended by 19 farmers from both villages.
