ATMA Kohima District in collaboration with KVK, Tesophenyu organised a day long Kisan Mela under Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav - 'Farmers participation is our priority' campaign.

As per the directives from the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, a day long Kisan Mela was organised at High School Junction, Kohima with women FIG/CIG/FSG and progressive farmers from all the seven blocks of Kohima district.

Deputy District Agriculture Officer, DAO Kohima, Kekhrieletuo Yhome inaugurated the Kisan Mela with words of encouragement for the women farmers to come up with more agricultural produce in the field of marketing entrepreneurship.

The main objective of the Kisan Mela is to create a platform for the women folks in agriculture to expose their products in marketing linkage locally as well as to export.

The exhibition and sale items included cereals and pulses, fruits, vegetables, flowers, wild products, value added products, poultry and technical folders etc. ATMA Kohima also disseminated technical folders in local dialect under the guidelines of Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. The folder includes some schemes such as Agriculture Infrastructure Fund, Farmers Producer Organization (FPOs), National Bee Keeping and Honey Mission (NBHM), Kisan Credit Card Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), and Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) under the theme 'Farmers participation is our Priority' 25th-30th April 2022.

Farmers Scientist Interaction was also conducted during the Kisan Mela where Sr. Scientist & Head KVK Tesophenyu Kohima, Ruokuovilie Mezhatsu along with his team interacted with the farmers. During the introductory speech, Mezhatsu stressed on the importance of Natural Farming and stated that its time to go to the old system of cultivation where he encouraged the farmers to start growing of the millet crop as it has more health benefits and it’s a sustainable crop.

The program concluded with award distribution to the best performing groups and some progressive farmers. Altogether, 86 farmers participated in the day long program.
