The inaugural programme of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav Week, North East Festival was celebrated at Shilloi Hotel Japfu, Kohima under the theme ‘Journey of Nagaland since Statehood’ on 28th April 2022.
Home Commissioner, Abhijit Sinha, IAS in his address said, 15th August 2022 is the 75th Anniversary of Indian Independence and 12nd March 2021 was selected to initiate the celebration of the 75 years of India’s independence, as on that day 90 years back in 1930, Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation started his famous Dandi March. He said the North East festival is a weeklong festival celebrated in all the states of the North East as a part of Amrit Mohotsav which will culminate on 4th May 2022 at Guwahati, Assam which is to be graced by the President of India. He added, in 2033, Nagaland will complete six decades of statehood which is 13 years after India’s Independence. He said Nagaland has travelled a long time, like the country at the dawn of independence, was under-develop, lacking infrastructure, and in every aspect considered as a backward country, but now the country is being counted as one of the most influential and most developed country in the world with the largest democracy, the people have steadfast.
The Home Commissioner also stated, Nagaland has also being marching shoulder to shoulder with every initiative the country has been taking to make the lives of the people better by creating more infrastructure and compared to the figures from the dawn of statehood 60 years back, now, on every parameter, the State occupies a place among all the states of the country as a proud state with lots of achievement to show, having set a unique features on how the state has been run and others learning from it. He also urged that there are also areas where the state has been lacking and a lot gaps to be done but with zeal and passion, Nagaland can overcome those gaps and on the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahosav week journey, he called upon all to take a pledge to rededicate themselves and put their passion and zeal to make Nagaland one the most developed states in the country.
During the programme, Mezhur Higher Secondary School students presented a song, a cultural presentation by Angami Cultural Troupe and a Choral by Ameu Usou Zao and the Choir. Presentation on the “Journey of Nagaland since Statehood” documentary and Photography Exhibition on “History of the State” were also displayed by the Department of Information & Public Relations. The programme was chaired by Commissioner, Nagaland, Rovilatuo Mor.
