A Block Level Health Melas under the National Health Mission supported by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) will be held in Kohima district from 18th to 22nd April 2022. This was informed by Chief Medical Officer Kohima, Dr. Vezokholu Theyo during a PowerPoint presentation in Kohima District Planning and Development Board meeting held at Kohima on 13th April 2022.
The CMO informed that the MoHFW is supporting the block level health melas in all the States and Union Territories up to Rs. One Lakh per block under National Health Mission for organising the health mela from 18th April to 22nd April 2022, which is expected to attract thousands of people desiring to avail quality health care services with essential medicines through different systems of medicine at free of cost.
The Melas will also help in informing people about the various health programs being carried out by the central government, State government, NGOs etc. She also informed that for block level mela, components of health mela will include digital health ID creation, NCD screening (Diabetes, hypertension, oral cancer), issue of Ayushman Bharat Card, awareness generation and health education, Basic health care services, Teleconsultation and referral, wellness activities like yoga meditation.
The main objectives of health mela would be building awareness about different health programmes with focus on ABHWC; To facilitate creation of Unique Health ID under ABDM for attendees; to facilitate provision of Ayushman Bharat Card under AB-PM-JAY; increase health awareness of the population for prevention of various communicable and non communicable diseases; Motivate the masses through innovative mass media and mid- media activities to adopt wellness behavior to stay healthy, provide screening for early diagnosis, basic health care services with drugs and diagnostic, teleconsultation with relevant health specialists and referrals as needed.
The key services of the health mela includes, Reproductive child health relate on maternal and child health, family planning, IEC- Family welfare, Reproductive Transmitted illnesses, sexually transmitted, illnesses, AIDS screening and treatment; NCD related on Yoga, meditation and lifestyle counseling, tobacco and alcohol cessation, cancer prevention awareness; Communicable diseases related on personal/environmental hygiene, leprosy control, TB control, malaria, skin care; Eye care on refractive error, Cataract screening); General on digital health ID creation- ABDM, Ayushman Bharat card issuance, general health check up teleconsultation with specialists, Indian system of medicine- Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Homeopathy; Awareness on exhibition of all services, field publicity- using local folk, art and play, ENT screening and dental consultation.
The CMO further informed that the health Mela would be held in collaboration with the department of State Health Authority, department of Food safety (FSSAI), department of Youth Affairs and Sports, department of AYUSH, department of School Education, department of Information and Broadcasting, department of Women and Child Development, department of Panchayat Raj Institution, Urban Development Directorate and Directorate of Culture.
