In connection with the ensuing Special Summary Revision of Photo Electoral Roll w.r.t. 01.01.2023 as the qualifying date, a briefing meeting with Electoral Roll Observers was held at the Chief Electoral Officer’s Office chamber on 7th November 2022.
CEO Nagaland, V. Shashank Shekhar, IAS during his interaction with the Roll Observers, stressed the importance of healthy and error-free electoral rolls for the conduct of elections, which is at the heart of democracy. He also highlighted the recent amendments in the Election Laws, particularly the introduction of multiple qualifying days for enrolment in the electoral roll and the collection of Aadhaar data from the electors voluntarily for linking and authentication of electoral rolls data. He pointed out that, as representatives of the Election Commission, the Roll Observers play an important role in bringing out a defect-free and authentic electoral roll for the conduct of future elections. Necessary guidelines, checklist, reporting formats, etc. were issued during the briefing. The briefing meeting was also attended by Additional CEO, Ruokuovituo Khezhie, Joint CEO, Sharon Longchari, and Joint CEO, Awa Lorin.
Kesonyu Yhome, IAS, Anenla T. Sato, IAS, Vikeyie Kenya, IAS, V. Maria Yanthan, IAS, Kenilo Apon, IAS, and Obangla Jamir, IAS have been appointed as Electoral Roll Observers by the Election Commission of India. They will be undertaking 3 (three) visits their respective assigned districts during the period of Summary Revision till the publication of the final electoral roll.
