Celebration of Anna Yojana and Public Distribution System under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav was held on 21st April 2022 at DC's conference hall Longleng with ADC HQ D. Robin as the Special Guest. The program was organised by the Department of Food & Civil Supply, Longleng.
In his speech, Robin asserted that the celebration was an opportunity for the people to extend their gratitude to both the Government of India and Nagaland under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio for taking the initiative to provide free rations to the poor beneficiaries during the COVID-19 crisis. He also lauded the officials and staff of the Food & Civil Supply Department for rendering their best services by reaching out to the beneficiaries during the most difficult situations. He informed that the people of Longleng have greatly benefited from the scheme.
Speaking on behalf of fair price shops and beneficiaries, Y.B. Angam pointed out that the Scheme has given hope and benefited the people at large including non-cardholders, daily wage earners, and physically challenged people. Appealing to the people to extend full cooperation to the government and to avail the opportunity provided, he cited that the people deserve to say thank you to the Government.
Presenting a brief report on PMGKAY the ADS Longleng John KR. Zeliang informed that the PMGKAY Phase I was launched from April 2020 to June 2020, Phase II from July 2020 to Nov. 2020, Phase III from May to June 2021, Phase IV from July 2021 - Nov. 2021, Phase V from Dec. 2021 to March 2022 and Phase VI extended from April 2022 - Sept. 2022.
He said PMGKAY is an additional allocation of foodgrains to all the beneficiaries covered under the Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) free of cost. The scheme is a pro-poor initiative and as part of the economic response to COVID-19 to ameliorate the hardships faced by the poor due to economic disruption caused by the covid pandemic by providing additional foodgrains @ 5KG per person per month.
Earlier, a welcome address was proposed by Y. Alex Akai from F&CS, Longleng, and a 'vote of thanks' by ADS John KR Zeliang. Testimonials were also shared by the beneficiaries who attended the program.
