Under 75 Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, a celebration of Anna Yojana and Public Distribution System in aegis of “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” was held at Tiyi hall, Wokha on 21st April 2022 with ADC, Wokha T. Lamkonsen Tsanglao as the special guest.

The ADC, while addressing the gathering, said the PMGKAY scheme is a year-long celebration that will continue till 15th August 2023. He added that the Government is focusing on organizing seminars, and workshops by various departments across the country.

After COVID-19 Lockdown, the PMGKAY scheme has taken up a laudable job in the form of providing relief like food -grains, especially to the daily wage earners and farmers, to ensure food security to all the beneficiaries/ public of India, Tsanglao said. He also stated that the government is introducing many schemes and policies to uplift the living standard of the rural people but he lamented that schemes and projects are not properly implemented, whereby he urged all the people, village functionaries, colony chairman, and GBs to ensure that the public gets their due share. He further stated that in any projects and policies, there are certain criteria to avail the benefit and urged the implementing agencies to ensure that eligible people get the benefit.

ADS, Wokha Mhonthung Tungoe, while giving a brief report, said PMGKAY is a scheme of the Government of India, for pro-poor initiative and as a part of economic response to covid-19 ameliorate the hardship faced by the poor due to economic disruption caused by coronavirus by allocation of additional free of cost food grain at 5 KG per person per month.

Tungoe stated that in Nagaland, the programme has been successfully implemented through the Department of Food And Civil Supplies starting from Phase 1,2,3,4, and 5, and with effect from April 2022, the department has started the phase 6 which is April to September 2022. In Wokha, PMGKY has immensely benefited 18756 cardholders with a population of 59827, the central government has provided an additional phase making it 6 phases which the ADS (F&CS) said is a good opportunity and urged all beneficiaries to avail of the benefit.

He also lauded the FPS owners and village council for timely providing the relief materials to the beneficiaries and at the same time appealed to them to judiciously distribute and make sure that people get their due share.

Some of the beneficiaries who also spoke during the function expressed gratitude to the central government, State government, and the department of F&CS for providing relief material during this trying time.
