In view of the unprecedented erosion along the Chathe River Bank at SeithekeBasa, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Chümoukedima has initiated emergency protection work to curb the destructive force of the river.
In a notice issued by the Office of the Extra Assistant Commissioner, Seithekema, the protection work involves the use of boulders and is being executed on a war footing near the Nagaland for Christ Prayer Centre area. Due to the volume and current of the river, heavy vehicles carrying boulders are unable to access the site through the SeithekeBasa route because of its precarious condition.
As an alternative, trucks transporting boulders will be rerouted and given entry through 5th Mile Model Village. The Village Councils of SeithekeBasa and 5th Mile Model Village have been requested to cooperate with the DDMA, Chümoukedima, to ensure the smooth and timely completion of the protection work.
