The District Level Centre for Women- Mahila Shakti Kendra, Kohima and Nagaland State Social Welfare Board hosted an online program to celebrate Children’s Day with the special needs children of Cherry Blossoms School, Kohima on 14th November, 2020. The program started with a Bible verse recitation by Rajesh Sunar.

The keynote address was given by Sarah R. Ritse, Commissioner Secretary to the Government of Nagaland & Administrator, Nagaland State Social Welfare Board where she urged the participants to increase the awareness of education, rights and care of children especially those with special needs. This program, she stated, was done to celebrate the day with the special children despite the pandemic under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Program.

Purnima Kayina, Headmistress, Cherry Blossoms School addressed the impact of the pandemic especially on the special needs students. Diethono Nakhro, State Commissioner, Persons with Disabilities also urged the students to move forward to make the world a better place and officially launched the painting competition under the theme “My three wishes.”

The program also included the participation of some of the previous students of the school; a special number was presented by Ketoulhoutuo Zuyie and Rajesh Sunar, recited some bible verses. Moderator Juliana Medom, BBBP Team Leader, Nagaland Sate Social Welfare Board informed that children’s Day is being celebrated in all the districts through the Deputy Commissioners. Vote of thanks was given by Kesoneinuo Kense, District Coordinator, District Level Centre for Women- Mahila Shakti Kendra, Kohima. A total of 46 persons attended the program.
