Sergeant Chubamayang of Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung won the top position as the Best Shooter in the Senior Division Category of 0.22” Rifle Shooting competition held in Mokokchung. He scored an astonishing 2cm grouping and the runner-up Lance Corporal Gaijenbung of St. Xavier College, Jalukie scored a 3cm grouping. The event was part of the NCC Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC) being conducted by 25 Naga Battalion NCC since 5th January 2023 and the culmination of the Weapon Training Module in the camp.
NCC Cadets from 11 districts of Nagaland are undergoing training on firing, handling, and maintenance of small arms, especially the 0.22” calibre Sporting Rifles. Musketry training, Squad Post training and dry practices were held before the cadets were exposed to firing live ammunition.
Principles of good shooting viz. Natural Alignment, Holding, Aiming and Trigger Operation were the cardinal principles of training the young shooters.
The shooting event was held over a period of two days in the CRPF Small Arms Range, Mokokchung under the aegis of 25 Naga Battalion NCC, Mokokchung.
While speaking to the press, the Camp Commandant and Commanding Officer of 25 Naga Battalion NCC, Col. CST Swamy said that shooting is the most important part of NCC training and the best shooters will be provided an opportunity to represent the State of Nagaland in National Level NCC Shooting Competitions. He also said that, as Nagas are natural hunters, the inborn shooting skills can be effectively honed by NCC training and the cadets have very high potential to excel in national and international level shooting competitions. He expressed his gratitude to Assistant Commandant, Anal Togain, OC, CRPF Coy, DEF Camp, Mokokchung for making the shooting range available for the event.
