CM RIO INAUGURATES NAGALAND COMMISSIONS' COMPLEX
Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio inaugurated the Nagaland Commissions' Complex at Kohima on 6th June 2023.
Speaking at the programme, Rio said though there are multiple Commissions in the State, all the Commissions are equally important. He said the Commissions are assigned to serve people by listening to the people's grievances and redressing their queries and desires. He added that there are multiple queries among the citizens due to multiple issues and called upon the concerned to promptly reply with factual things. He stated that the objective of the Commissions is to gain the confidence of the people and promote transparency and accountability, and contain corruption.
The Chief Minister lamented that the Naga society is educated but not mature and refined. He said that there are many apprehensions and doubts among the public for which he asked the Commissions to sincerely carry out their assigned duties.
Rio expressed satisfaction with the quality of the building construction. He said the State Government will provide the necessary resources for the completion of the building and hoped that the whole complex will be completed within a year. The Chief Minister also called upon the gathering to maintain a clean and hygienic environment.
Chief Information Commissioner, Nagaland, I. Meyionen Jamir, in his opening remarks, stated that though the complex has not been completed, it was inaugurated due to the urgent need for office space by the Nagaland Information Commission. He said that the complex was initially meant for the Nagaland Information Commission, however, the Government decided to house various Commissions under one roof. He said that the complex will be occupied in a phased manner on completion.
Jamir also highlighted the functions of the Nagaland Information Commission. He said that the Commission has one Chief Information Commissioner, two State Information Commissioners, and one Secretary. He informed that since its inception in March 2006 till 2022-23, the Nagaland Information Commission has received 304 appeals and 11 complaints. During 2022-23, it received 47 cases and disposed of 43 cases. He also informed that the Commission has disposed of all pending cases and presently dealing with current cases only.
Presenting the technical report, Chief Engineer, NPWD (Housing), Er. I. Tiameren informed that work started in December 2013 and the project site covers an area of 1.61 acres with a total plan area of 4,996.09 sq meters. He said the overall physical progress of the complex is 65%.
State Chaplain, Rev. T. W. Yamyap Konyak offered the dedicatory prayer.
The programme was chaired by State Information Commissioner, Nosazol Charles. The programme was attended by DGP Nagaland, Rupin Sharma, Home Commissioner, Abhijit Sinha, chairpersons of various Commissions, and other senior government officials.
The Nagaland Commissions' Complex is located below NBCC Convention Centre, Kohima, and will house the Disability Commission, Child Rights Protection Commission, Electricity Regulatory Commission, Nagaland Information Commission, Women Commission, Human Rights Commission, Backward Tribes Commission, and Election Commission.
