The much awaited locally produced coffee bar was inaugurated at District Project Office, Department of Land Resources, Zunheboto on 6th August 2021.Deputy Commissioner Zunheboto, Peter Lichamo graced the inaugural programme of the Coffee bar cum distribution of coffee Pulper machine, as the special guest, which was organised by the concerned department. 

The DC said that the district has many farmers cultivating coffee, with the potentiality of growing good quality coffee, and added that it could even compete with the bests qualities found across the world. Lichamo appreciated the Department of Land Resources for taking up the initiative and also for distribution of coffee pulper machines to the beneficiaries. He also said that a local coffee bar will also be opened at the main market area soon. 

District Land Resources Officer, Vikugha Kiba recalled on how the coffee production was introduced to Zunheboto District in the year 2017 at 65 villages and expressed his satisfaction to note that local coffee production have now made its way to the international markets. The farmers in Zunheboto district are not into any kind of economic return cultivation, he said that if the farmers take up coffee cultivation than the economy would change, generating self-employment and livelihood among the youths who can earn enough through coffee cultivation.

He stated that Zunheboto has got about one lakh and eighty six thousand hectors of land for coffee cultivation and if the products remain good, the farmers need not be dependant and would even sustain and prosper. He also added that the department has distributed 23 lakh planting materials to the farmers and the department is aiming to grow local, eat local and drink local not only coffee but for other cultivable herbs as well.
