The Cooperative Training Centre Medziphima, Nagaland, Department of Cooperation in collaboration with National Cooperative Union of India (NCUI) and ARCS Office Wokha, held a Cooperative Awareness Programme at the community hall, Baghty town on 22nd March 2023 with SDO (Civil) Rohbi Sangtam, NCS.

The programme which aimed at strengthening the people for economic self-reliance had experts from KVK, Wokha, Fishery and Veterinary Departments, and Nagaland State Cooperative Bank (NSCB) Wokha as resource persons and trainers who imparted awareness on how to participate and render services in a socio economic-organization for the benefit of its members and thus enable them to attain increased income, savings, investments, and productivity instead of being a social liability and dependent on others. 

T. Alanthung Ngullie, SRCS Wokha, speaking on functions and objectives of cooperative societies, said that the main objective of a cooperative society is for the economic growth of its members through mutual help, where profit is shared equitably. He also highlighted potential areas to promote self-sustenance, economic surplus, and generating employment at the local level through cooperative societies. The process of organizing a cooperative society was also made aware to the farmers and the public and the department was always there to give training on how to run a cooperative society effectively.

During the interactive session of the programme, farmers shared their experiences on success stories as well as the challenges they faced.

Enhancing livestock production by Dy. Director, Veterinary Department, Dr. N. Wopenthung Odyuo, transforming agricultural practices by Dr. B.L. Mhalo Tungoe, Acto-Agri, Financial literacy by Ariekpe Chamlak, branch manager, NSCB Wokha and enhancing fish production by Apon S Kikon, AFI, Fishery Department, Wokha were the topics covered during the programme.

Bokato Hesso Dy, RCS, Kohima, Chubamenla Principal, Training Centre, Medziphima, and Obendangba, ARCS Wokha also spoke in the programme which was attended by citizens and farmers from surrounding villages of Baghty.
