Kohima Science College marked its 61st Freshers' Social event with Salhoutuonuo Kruse, Minister of Women Resource Development & Horticulture, as the chief guest on August 31st, 2023. Minister Kruse extended her congratulations to the incoming freshers for securing a place in the esteemed college. She acknowledged the visionary leadership of Jotsoma village for its significant contribution to the college's progress.

During her speech, Minister Kruse urged the students to challenge conventional thinking and step out of their comfort zones. Emphasizing the role of such thinking in driving innovation and technology, she emphasized that divergent perspectives are essential for bringing about meaningful change. Minister Kruse highlighted the importance of problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and the ability to simplify complex situations in adapting to change and tackling challenges. She encouraged students to nurture curiosity within themselves, as it is a precursor to critical thinking and problem-solving.

Minister Kruse also emphasized the crucial role of critical thinking in evaluating new ideas, asserting that adept problem-solving is a valuable asset for any career. She expressed hope that the college would maintain high academic standards in alignment with national frameworks and evolving academic and social benchmarks.

Notable awards were presented for the year 2023, including the Governor Award in memory of Late Captain N. Kenguruse, Maha Vir Chakra, which recognized the best male and female undergraduate students:

  • Best male: Munuho Lohe (Geography) with CGPA = 8.63
  • Best female: Neingusanuo Kire (Botany) with CGPA = 9.1.

The event also included the presentation of the Founding Father Awards, bestowed upon undergraduate Gold Medalists of each department who secured a minimum CGPA of 8 out of 10. The recipients were recognized as follows:

  • Akum Imlong Award for Chemistry: Killishna Adhikari (CGPA = 8.46)
  • Rev. Haizotuo Munshi Award for Mathematics & Computer Science:
    • Mathematics: Shanchobeni Y Ovung (CGPA = 8.66)
    • Computer Science: Washirenla Longkumer (CGPA = 8.63)
  • K. Sekhose Award for Anthropology and English:
    • Anthropology: Thejavinuo Guozi Seyie (CGPA = 8.80)
    • English: Keviphrono Suokhrie (CGPA = 8.06)

Moreover, special awards like the Rock Star Award, Stellar Award, and Geographia Award were presented to deserving students for their exceptional achievements.
