DEPARTMENT OF S&WC CELEBRATES WORLD METEOROLOGICAL DAY  

The Department of Soil & Water Conservation celebrated World Meteorological Day under the theme "The Future of Weather, Climate, and Water across Generations” on 23rd March 2023 at the Directorate Conference hall.

The programme was chaired by Rongsenlemzung, Joint Director and State Nodal Officer for Meteorology, in his remark, he stated that the ultimate goal of agriculture meteorology is to extend and fully deploy knowledge of atmospheric-related processes to optimize agriculture production and hence increase profitability, decrease risk and feed an expanding global population.

A short speech was delivered by S.K.Hekshe, Director of Soil and Water Conservation, in his speech, he highlighted the importance of Meteorological and Hydrological Services for the safety and well-being of society. He also stated that World Meteorological Day reminds us of changing climate and educates the public on the important happenings in meteorology, such as global warming and the increased frequency of natural disasters.

He forewarned that weather, climate, and water cycle will be different in the coming years from the past. In view of these changes, he highlighted that the weather, climate, and hydrological services will immensely help people to tackle the associated challenges and seize the opportunity, which is in resonance with this year’s theme 'The Future of Weather, Climate and Water across Generations'.

In commemoration of World Meteorological Day, the Director released a booklet entitled, “Meteorological report of Nagaland 2022”, which was published by the Soil Survey and Land Use Planning Wing (SSLUP) of the Department while releasing the booklet, the Director appreciates and congratulates the whole team for their dedication and sincerity.

A vote of thanks was delivered by Chairman and he concluded with a quote, “Life is like a weather, sometimes it is sunny and sometimes it pours, however at the end there will always be a rainbow.”
