District Development Coordination and Monitoring meeting was held on 1st September 2022 at DPDB Hall, Kohima.

Chairing the meeting, Deputy Commissioner and Member Secretary, DISHA, Shanavas C, IAS thanked the Chairman, DISHA Kohima and Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha), Nagaland, Tokheho Yepthomi, Co-Chairperson, DISHA Kohima and Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), S. Phangnon Konyak and the departments for their participation and contribution towards developmental activities in the districts.

MP, Lok Sabha, Tokheho Yepthomi mentioned that since 2018, Prime Minister Narandra Modi has entrusted all MPs to be the Chairman of DISHA for various developmental activities. He requested all the departments to coordinate with one another for centrally sponsored schemes, and urged them to work judiciously and give their best for the people.

MP, Rajya Sabha, S. Phangnon encouraged the departments to reach out to the rural people and informed about the various central schemes so that the right beneficiaries can avail the benefits.

PWD (R&B), Kohima South stated that under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY)-11, selected works under PWD (R&B) South Division Kohima, work for road upgradation have been selected which is under preparatory stage from Khonoma via Mezoma, Sechuma and Peducha, and from Phesama to Kipfuzha via Kisama and BSF Camp to Rusoma.

PWD (R&B), Chiephobozou stated that under PMGSY, upgradation of road project has been undertaken from Botsa via Chakhabama to Dihoma and Botsa to Sendenyu via Tsiemekhuma.

PHED (Rural), Kohima stated in its departmental activities that JJM, started in 2019 and aims to provide drinking water supply to all rural villages in the country through connection (FHTC) by 2022- 2023. He also said that need for convergence with various programmes is necessary to achieve the overall goal of JJM and ensure sustainability of water supply in terms of quality, quantity and regularity.

Tokheho Yepthomi urged the PHED (Rural) to cover the household connection tape through deep tubewell and rainwater harvesting tanks for those villages which are unable to connect through gravitational line.

Assistant Director of Food & Civil Supplies, Kohima stated that under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY), an additional allocation of foodgrains to all the beneficiaries were covered under Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) free of cost. He said that the scheme is a pro-poor initiative and to alleviate the hardships faced by the poor due to economic disruption caused by COVID-19 pandemic, it provides additional foodgrains at 5Kg per person per month for free of cost in the 5 Phase (December 2021-March 2022) which has been distributed, and 6 Phase (April 2022-September 2022) April 2022-August 2022 has already been distributed to the beneficiaries, and lifting for September 2022 allocation is being currently carried out.

While highlighting its departmental activities, DRDA, Kohima stated that MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act 2005) is an Indian labor law and a social security measure that aims to guarantee ‘Right to Work.’ He added that the objective of MGNREGA Act is to enhance the livelihood security in the rural areas by providing at least 100 days of guaranteed wage employment in a financial year to every household, whose members volunteers to do unskilled manual work. He also informed that each household is entitled to have one job card and all the job card holders must be adult members of the local residents and equal wages are provided to both men and women.

Highlighting on Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), PHED, Kohima Urban stated that JJM envisions to provide safe and adequate drinking water through individual household tap connection by 2024 to all households in rural areas. The Mission was launched by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi on 15th August 2019.

MP, Lok Sabha, Tokheho Yepthomi said that the Department is supposed to complete the JJM household connection within five (5) years. He also stated that the Mission will not remain the same and may be terminated by one and a half years. He suggested to the Department to focus in rain harvest system, as in most of the places in hilly areas, water is unfit for human consumption unless proper filtrations are done.
