The District Jail, Longleng was inaugurated on 18th November 2021 by Advisor, Prisons and Printing & Stationary, H. Haiying. Minister for Health & Family Welfare, S. Pangnyu Phom, Advisor DUDA, N. Bongkho Konyak and MLA, S. Keoshu Yimchunger also attended the programme.

Executive Engineer (CAWD) Kohima, Er. Sungtiba Amer, spoke on the construction report of the jail.

Advisor Prisons, Printing & Stationary, H. Haiying in his speech stated that there are ten district jails and one central jail in the State, and with the addition of Longleng District Jail there will be a total of twelve jails in Nagaland. He added that there were lots of ups and downs in the process of the project but it is successfully completed and congratulated the contractors, engineers and all those involved.

Haiying also mentioned that with the new District Jail, they won’t depend on the other districts for assistance and it will be a convenience for everyone. He also encouraged the gathering saying that an institution for justice is administered in the district and from that day forth, they should choose the right path. When we talk about jail in modern concept, it is considered a correctional services, he added.

The Advisor also encouraged that we not keep imagination to ourselves but do our works practically with sincerity and commitment and only that we can move forward. He also urged the citizens to cooperate so that the district jail can be considered a model jail in the state in the future.

Gracing the inaugural program, Minister, Health & Family Welfare Minister, S. Pangnyu Phom expressed with hope that the District Jail will help solving some issues such as crimes, drugs and robbery. He urged added the District Administration, NGOs and the public to co-operate and make the best use out of such the establishment.

Phom also urged the gathering with a strong message on the importance on vaccination, stating that it is the best solution available so far and that everyone should be vaccinated at the earliest.

Advisor, DUDA, Bongkhao Konyak; MLA S. Keoshu Yimchunger; ADC Longleng; Bhumnyu Village Council Chairman and President Phom People Council also spoke at the programme.

The programme was chaired by SRO (Plg) Prision HQs, Kohima, C. Lwngnyei Konyak while vote of thanks was delivered by Senior Superintendent of Jails Prisons HQs, Kohima, Khushito Awomi. The dedicatory prayer was offered by Paster Oushok Baptist Church, Rev. Chingkon,.
