The Distric - Level Teachers Award ceremony for Kohima was held on 3rd September 2025 at the Office of the District Education Officer (DEO), Kohima, with Deputy Commissioner Kohima, B Henok Buchem, gracing the occasion as the special guest. The recipients of the award were: Neitsizonuo Liezietsu, Graduate Teacher, GPS Kenuozou; B Sentimongla, Graduate Teacher, Government High School PWD Kohima; Orenvungo Yanthan, Post Graduate Teacher, Rüzhükhrie Government Higher Secondary School; and Neilazetuo Khezhie, Physical Education Teacher, Dr. N Kire Government Higher Secondary School Congratulating the awardees, the DC said that out of 400 teachers only four were selected, and all were deserving of the recognition. He described the award as a reflection of their commitment and tireless efforts to bring out the best in students. Highlighting that Kohima, established in 1879, is the first district and the state capital, he said serving in the district is both a privilege and a responsibility, urging teachers to set an example for others to follow. Buchem reminded that teaching is not just a job but a calling, emphasizing empathy and compassion in shaping young minds. “Every successful individual owes their success to teachers,” he said, encouraging educators to adapt to the evolving journey of education with AI and technology. He also noted that at times, children themselves can be the best teachers. Quoting from Proverbs, he said: “Train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old he will not depart from it.”

The DC further invited students aspiring for civil services or government service to experience a day with him in administrative work. Speaking on behalf of the awardees, Orenvungo expressed gratitude, dedicating the award to students, colleagues, and officers-in-charge for their support. He said the recognition has motivated them to step out of their comfort zones and perform even better in the future.

Earlier, DEO Kohima, Emilo Patton, delivered the welcome address. Taümei Phom, PT, GHS Midland, shared her experiences as a teacher, while SDEO Chiephobozou, Visasielie Suohu, proposed the vote of thanks. The programme also featured An Ode to Teachers presented by Dr. N Kire GHSS and a special song by students of GMS P Khel.
