To commemorate the 75 years of Indian Independence, the Government of India has decided to celebrate “India @ 75: Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” starting from today and culminate on 15th August 2022. The seminar was graced by Minister for Planning & Coordination, Land Revenue, Parliamentary Affairs, Neiba Kronu as the special guest.

Neiba Kronu, addressing during the seminar said, the Pradhan Mantra Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) was launched on 25th December 2000 with the prime objective to provide connectivity by way of an all-weather road, to the eligible unconnected habitations in the rural areas with designated population size as per census 2001, so that people in the rural area have access to basic health services, education and market for the produce.

In Nagaland since the inception of the project till July 2021, a total of 4382.5 KM road length has been sanctioned under PMGSY-I and again 116 eligible habitations identified for coverage under the scheme 109 eligible and feasible habitations under the scheme and 7 (nos) under state various scheme are provided with all-weather road connectivity.

Under PMGSY-II a total of 227.60 Km road length has been sanctioned and are at various stage of completion. Overall 2932.83 Km road length has been completed under various verticals of the scheme as on 31/07/2021.

The Minister added that, Nagaland along with the rest of the country is also participating in the celebration by organizing the first activity i.e. District Rural Road Seminar from 15th August 2021 to 22nd August 2021 in all the district headquarters of the State and expressed happiness to be a part of the programme at Wokha on the auspicious day the 15th August 2021.

Er. Achumbeni Odyuo while reporting on technical presentation, said during the commemoration of the yearlong; Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ the National Rural Infrastructure Development Agency under the Ministry of Rural Development, GOI, have decided to organized four activities to impart public awareness on the implementation & achievement of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).

Executive Engineer, PWD (R&B) Baghty Division, Er. Imsuyaner in his chairman remark said, today’s seminar was focussed on three main topics such as Use of New Technology in Rural road construction, Implementation of PMGSY-III scheme and Role of PMGSY in development of respective rural areas.

The event organisers hope and expect the active participation of all stakeholders for smooth conduct and success of the yearlong celebration of the “India @ 75: Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”.
