Peren District Water and Sanitation Misson (DWSM) meeting was held on 17th November, 2021 at DC's conference hall, Peren under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Peren, Sentiwapang Aier, NCS.

Presiding over the meeting, the DC said that DWSM is an activity carried out under the Department of PHE as part of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).

EE Peren (PHED), Bursenla Ao while giving brief highlights on the objectives of JJM said, it was announced by the Prime Minister of India on 15th August, 2019 to provide Functional Household Tap connection (FHTC) to every rural household with adequate quantity of drinking water supply of prescribed quality on regular and long term basis; to provide functional tap connection to Schools, Anganwadi centers, Community buildings and Health centers; to monitor functionality of tap connections; to promote and ensure voluntary ownership among local community by way of contribution in cash, kind or labour; to assist in ensuring sustainability of water supply system i.e., water source, water supply infrastructure and funds for regular O&M and also to empower and develop human resources.

Further, she also highlighted the different strategies which needs to be adopted for achieving the objectives of JJM, roles & functions of DWSM as well as ongoing activities under Jal Jeevan Mission in Peren District.

During the meeting, the members also approved the 4 (four) proposed JJM Model Villages under RD Block in Peren District which includes New Peren Village under Peren Block, Punglwa Village under Jalukie Block, Songlhuh Village under Ahthibung Block and Tening Village under Tening Block.

A short presentation on "Jal Shakti Campaign-Catch the Rain" programme was also presented by the officials from Water Resources Department.

The Deputy Commissioner appealed to the DWSM members to jointly visit the identified JJM model villages under RD Block in Peren District and also organise an awareness generation programmes in Schools, Health and Anganwadi Centers. Further, he also called for coordination from all the other convergent departments in order to ensure the successful development of the identified model villages while implementing the scheme.
