The Public Health Engineering Department, Noklak under the aegis of Swachh Bharat Mission-Grameen (SBM-conducted a programme for distribution of dustbins for Noklak Town on 24th September 2020 at PHE store, Noklak.
Speaking on the occasion, EAC (Hq) Noklak, Yithachu Thur stressed on the importance of community participation and community ownership towards waste management. The issues of poor waste management have led to a plethora of problems that are detrimental to environment. Poor waste management has led to water logging, landslides and also health issues. Waste management is our collective responsibilities –both individual and community responsibility. Ward/Sector leaders were encouraged to come up with innovative ideas and local means for effective management of waste.
Highlighting on Swachh Bharat Mission- Grameen, Er.Khaoshai Lam, SDO PHE Noklak, stressed that sanitation is everybody’s business where active participation of all individuals is needed for proper waste management. He also emphasis on importance of waste segregation into wet and dry waste products at house hold level.
Further, the officer called for behavioural change that will sustain the continual effort on waste management and to re-affirm the commitment towards building a healthier and cleaner nation. He encouraged the gathering to start a compost pit in every household and so that, it can be used in kitchen gardens.
The programme was chaired by SO PHED T. Puchong and the programme was attended by representatives from all wards under Noklak town. The programme was followed by distribution of dustbins to all wards.
