Electoral Roll Observer for Longleng and Mon, Kikheto Sema, IAS, Agricultural Production Commissioner Nagaland visited Longleng on 12th Dec. 2020 and held meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall, Longleng in connection with Summary Revision of Electoral Roll for the year 2020. The meeting was chaired by M Shayung Phom, Deputy Commissioner & DEO Longleng.
The Observer briefly highlighted the importance of democracy stating that Election is its pillar and referring to Article 324 and 325, he said that the revision process is based on equality and does not discriminate any person, that, all eligible citizens irrespective of sex, race, caste, religion, etc. must enroll themselves as a voter to exercise their franchise. Therefore, he appealed to the political parties to have clean e/roll for clean election. He also asserted that when it comes to clean election Nagaland must learn a lot from the neighboring Christian states like Mizoram and Meghalaya.
He appreciated the improvement of gender ratio in the District and appealed to the political parties and the district administration to cooperate with each other by coming together, working together and to create an awareness in the minds of the people to discourage duplicate voters and emphasise on ’one man, one vote’ for a clean Electoral Roll.
The Observer also urged the churches to include clean election campaign and spread the message of Clean Election through church platforms and he was also of the opinion that it should be included in the elementary education. He encouraged all the members to communicate and coordinate with each other for a free, fair and clean Electoral Roll.
Later, the Electoral Roll Observer along with the district administration led by the Deputy Commissioner visited some polling stations in Longleng town and neighbouring villages.
The meeting was attended by AROs, District Administrative Officers and Political Parties of the district.
