Farmers' Fair cum Exhibition on Jal Shakti Abhiyan & Farmers Scientist Interaction under "Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav" was jointly organised by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Peren and Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Peren on 26th April, 2022 at KVK Farm, Jalukie. The programme was graced by ADC Jalukie, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang as the Chief Guest while NZPO President, Kevipelie and DEAN, CAU, College of Vety. Jalukie were the Special Guests.
Speaking in the inaugural programme Dr. Tinojongshi Chang acknowledged the KVK and ATMA Peren for organising the programme in a joint platform which he said will encourage the farmers in the district to do better in the days to come. He also stressed on sustainable farming and crop insurance scheme which will benefit the farmers in the district. In this regard, he requested the concerned department to initiate relief schemes for the welfare of the farmers. The ADC stated that the citizens of Peren District are fortunate to have a Veterinary & Animal Husbandry College, for which he urged the farmers to coordinate with the concerned departments and to work hard.
Dean, CAU, College of Vety. Jalukie in his address said KVK & ATMA share the same mandate and one goal, i.e. the upliftment of the farmers. He also stated that Ministry of Jal Shakti had taken up a nation-wide campaign, "Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain" focusing on saving and conserving rainwater with the theme "Catch the rain, where it falls, when it falls" from 22nd March, 2021 to 30th November, 2021 in the pre-monsoon and monsoon periods of 2021 covering both urban and rural areas of all the districts in the country. He also emphasized on water conservation & rain water harvesting as well as priority wise use of water. He added that management of water resources is the main areas which needs to be looked after in Nagaland, for this the community and individual concerned should also play an important role and work together with KVK & ATMA.
NZPO President, Kevipelie in his speech spoke on preservation of indigenous varieties of millet seeds. He also said, KVK & ATMA Peren is always willing to help the farmers and the farmers will do better if they come forward and approach the Scientists and Doctors. Therefore, he urged the farmers to approach them for any help pertaining to scientific knowledge.
During the technical session, Z. James Kikon, ACTO, Soil Sc. KVK Peren spoke on Natural Farming (Bharatiya Prakritik Krishi Paddhati), while Isapeule, Agri. Inspector, Dept. of Agriculture and Dr. L. Babita Devi, CTO, Animal Sc. KVK Peren spoke on Importance of Millet and Oil Seed cultivation and Animal Health Care & Management respectively. It was followed by a Farmer-Scientist interaction.
Later, Agri Implement Tools, Seasonal Crops and Watering Cans were distributed to the farmers free of cost.
