The Federation of Nagaland State Engineering Association (FONSESA) celebrated the World Engineering Day with the theme “Engineering for a Healthy planet - Celebrating the UNESCO Engineering project Report” at Hotel Vivor, Kohima on 4th March with Minister, PWD (Housing & Mechanical) Tongpang Ozukum as the special Guest.
Addressing the gathering, Tongpang mentioned that earlier the celebration of Engineer's day was not uniform but resolution was adopted by UNESCO in 2019 to observe every year on 4th March. The World Engineering day for sustainable development is a big step for addressing the issues facing mankind and will create awareness of the role of engineering which is essential to mitigate the impact of climate change and other advance sustainable development. He said that, the Global planet warming and its consequences is threatening the very existence of humanity so Engineers need to focus on engineering for healthy planet and added that no branch of engineering is less important than the other as they are equally important and necessary for making this world a better place.
The Minister stressed on the importance of collaboration among the Government, industries, Civil societies to promote engineering invocation to transform Engineering profession with stronger capacity to respond to the pressing challenges faced by mankind to find solutions to shape a peaceful , prosperous, inclusive and sustainable world for all.
Tongpang requested the Engineers to be more active, dedicated and walk an extra mile in achieving the sustainable goals adopted by UNESCO and further added that there are many welfare association in Nagaland but the role of Engineers has a greater responsibility to play crucial role to in solving and needs of the people. Earlier the special Guest Tongpang Ozukum released the vision document 2021 for sustainable development of Nagaland state power sector.
President FONSESA Er. Moa Aier in his welcome address said that the day is an opportunity to engage with the Government and other agencies to address the need for engineering capacity and the quantity of Engineers around the world to develop strategic frame work and best practices for the implementation of Engineering solutions for sustainable development. He further mentioned that Engineering day is also about promoting Engineering as a career to change the world for the better.
Federating Department under (FONSESA) members delivered short speeches on the significance, role and importance of the world engineering day celebration including AOE PWD by Er. Nakhro, APEN by Er. Penrithung, APHEN by Er. Supongyanger, AOME by Er. Imtinuksung, EANRE by Er. Renilo Nuh, WRDEAN by Er. Thepfusalie Guozi and AOE DGM by Er. Kereisezo Sachu.
