The Governor of Nagaland, La Ganesan held an interaction meeting with the CSOs and HoDs of Phek district at Heritage Banquet Hall, DC’s Residence on 20th April 2023. 

The Governor mentioned that Phek district has achieved the two more successful community based programmes in the state such as the Village Development Board first initiated at Kutsapo village in 1976 and implemented throughout Nagaland in 1980 and Communitisation of Public Institutions and Services was also launched from Phek that has earned many accolades for the State for which Nagaland was the recipient of the UN Public Service Excellence Award in 2008 for its communitisation programme.

The Governor also mentioned about the launching the Swacch Bharat Mission in 2014 to declare India open defecation free, for which he expressed his happiness and acknowledged that most towns and villages in Nagaland are found clean. The Governor also urged upon all the citizens to make ‘swacch’ our goal and our lifestyle to keep all surroundings and environment clean which is essential in the post-covid scenario.

He also gave credit to every individual, CSOs and the government agencies for the peaceful environment we enjoy today in the state and called upon all look back and feel proud of our achievements and at the same time introspect on the things we are still trying to achieve. Governor also stressed on the need to be good model citizens for the state as well as for the country, to co- operate and work hand in hand with government- both at the centre and in the state.  In the education sector, he said, Phek district literacy percentage of 88.30% is much higher than our national average, however, Governor also urged them to strive for excellence, at the same time.

The Governor also announced that the State Medical College at Kohima will be starting their academic session very soon and the health scenario is expected to improve in a major way by way of more doctors being available with the state’s health set-up.

He also mentioned that under the direct intervention of the central government, numerous road projects are ongoing in the state, where Phek district have its fair share of road projects, such as Pfutsero- Phek 2- Lane Highway which is completed. He also mentioned Kohima-Pfutsero-Meluri 2 lane Highway will also be completed and the road connectivity project to go beyond Meluri to Myanmar and link up with the South East Asian economies as per the central Government “Look East” and “Act East Policy”. He also said Banking is another basic service that cannot be ignored in this modern world and cited that every eligible citizen should have a Jan-Dhan account, especially women in order to avail all the banking facilities and also urge upon the officers from various departments present at the meeting to kindly ensure that the flagship programmes of the government pertaining to basic services are diligently implemented for the welfare of the people.

Shorts speech were also delivered by Chakhesang Public Organisation, Pochury Hoho, Chakhesang Youth Front, Chakhesang Students’ Union, PDCCI and Chakhesang Mothers Association during which they also submitted memorandums to the Governor. The programme was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Phek, Kumar Ramnikant, IAS.
