The Governor of Nagaland La Ganesan inaugurated the Multi-Level Car Parking, P.R Hill Kohima in presence of the CM, Neiphiü Rio on 4 November 2023
Opening the multi-level parking, the Governor expressed his happiness for the new Multi-Level Car Parking facilities under smart city schemes in Kohima city. He stated that for some years, Kohima has grappled with a challenging issue–the problem of traffic and parking. He said that as the capital city of the state, Kohima is growing by leaps and bounds in terms of area as well as population. The Governor mentioned that every day the relentless urban growth coupled with increased vehicle usage add to the parking chaos, burdening our city roads and hindering our day-to-day lives.
The Governor urged upon the gathering to stand collectively, taking a significant stride towards restoring order, alleviating parking troubles, and heralding a new era of urban modernity. He said that the inauguration of these multi-level car parking mark a watershed moment in our city's infrastructure development journey. It is a step in the right direction towards becoming a smart city – a city with smart infrastructure as well as smart citizens, he said.
The Governor said that these state-of-the-art facilities, equipped with modern amenities, are not just concrete structures, but a testament to our resolve to address pressing urban challenges effectively. He also said it’s an essential tool in our efforts to reinvigorate Kohima's downtown, boost our local businesses, and ensure a better quality of life for our people.
The Governor noted that the inauguration of these multi-level car parking serve as the embodiment of progress and innovation, transcending beyond alleviating our parking woes. He stated that this development is a promise, a commitment, that our city is not just growing, but evolving growing smarter and becoming more efficient.
The Governor urged the citizens to remember that every profound change starts with a step. He opined that everyone should strive towards a more systematic and organized Kohima city. He further said that our efforts for better lives and better amenities should not stop here.
The Governor mentioned that every citizen of Kohima is a stakeholder in its progress towards modernity. The Governor called upon that everyone to shoulder the responsibility to shape Kohima’s future and extend the best possible support and cooperation to all the government agencies in development projects.
The Governor congratulated the state government and the Department of Urban Development and Municipal Affairs for this achievement. He said that this inauguration represents the commitment of the Government to serve the people and to progress and march towards prosperity.
Earlier, the Governor unveiled the plaque in presence of the CM, Ministers, Advisors, Chief Secretary J. Alem and other officers.
The Chief minister Neiphui Rio who in his address stated that the state has achieved another landmark by inaugurating two Multi Level Parking at old Medical directorate PR Hill Kohima and NST bus station Kohima. The CM on behalf of the Government of Nagaland acknowledged his gratitude to the Government of India for according sanctions for the construction of MLCP in the state capital under Pradhan Mantir Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY)
The Chief Minister also acknowledged the Governor for doing the act of Inauguration of MLCP at P.R Hill. He also expressed his gratefulness to Governor for his constant help and support towards the state infrastructural development. CM also thanked all the concerned including the CEO, Smart City Development Ltd. and his engineering team, all the contractors, and NPWD for their rendering all possible helps and support in bringing many successful accomplishments in Kohima.
CM also called upon the stakeholders to be more responsible to use and maintained the parking facilities with better civic sense. The MLCP will ease parking on the road side and accidents in the cities which will give a great boost to the citizens of the Kohima.
During the momentous occasion, on behalf of Government of Nagaland the Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio lauded and expressed his gratitude to the PM Narendra Modi for his vision and broadminded for undertaken infrastructural and development activities.
Rio mentioned that the road from T. Khel model village to IG stadium Mereima will be accorded importance by granting more funds and it will be carried out by NHIDCL to ease traffic congestion in the capital city giving convenience to commuters of Wokha, Tsemenyu, Zunhebuto and Mokokchung without passing through the heart of the capital. He also said that our city also needs to implement Building Bye laws so as to keep space for vehicle parking while constructing houses. He added that Nagas want a rich life style but remain poor because we have not fully exploited our resources and with no revenue, therefore, he urged the people to utilize our resources for revenue and jobs.
CEO Kohima Smart City Development Ltd Er. K. Theuno who gave technical report said that Construction of MLCP in the state Capital Kohima was a long awaited dream to operate modern parking smart solutions for the city and to ease the traffic congestion to a major extent thereby aiding to a more regulated and Smooth traffic flow. He said that it will create more parking availability in limited spaces, which is desirable for cities, business, and events.
The total floor area of this MLTC is about 1,40,000 sq.ft having G + 5 floors. It has also constructed 62 rooms for shops (6 in ground floor, 28 in 4th and 28 rooms in 5th floor). The three floors (First to third floor) for car parking having capacity of 180 cars which also included Public toilets, CCTVs, lift facility, food court on top floor and also Epoxy car deck flooring are provided in all the floors. The building was completed in July 2023 after taking over.
Advisor, Urban Development & Municipal Affairs, Zhaleo Rio delivered the welcome addressed on the mega event. Symphony Academy of Music, Kohima presented the special song. The program was compered by Imchadila longkumer DIPR while Vote of Thanks was pronounced by Commissioner and secretary Urban Development & Municipal Affairs Kenilo Apon IAS. The program was attended by Ministers, Advisors and senior officers.
