Governor of Nagaland, La. Ganesan, undertook his inaugural official visit to Dimapur District on 30th August 2023. During this significant visit, Governor Ganesan expressed his pride in being present in Dimapur, acknowledging its status as the largest and one of the most vital cities in Nagaland, both economically and culturally.
Addressing an assembly of Heads of Offices and Civil Society Organizations at the DC's Conference Hall in Dimapur, Governor Ganesan underscored the city's pivotal role as the gateway to Nagaland. He emphasized that all goods and people entering the state must pass through Dimapur, which is endowed with both rail and air connectivity. Recognizing the prominence of Dimapur Railway Station as the second most crucial railway station in Northeast India after Guwahati, he disclosed governmental plans to transform it into a world-class facility.
Despite its smaller geographical size compared to other districts, Governor Ganesan highlighted the immense economic contribution that Dimapur District extends to the state of Nagaland. He also commended Dimapur for being a dynamic and diverse town. The Governor drew attention to the issue of soil erosion stemming from unchecked exploitation of riverbanks for resources. He cautioned that this concern, if unaddressed, could lead to severe repercussions including displacement of settlements and economic activities. Thus, he urged the public to rethink water resource management, advocating for sustainability.
Governor Ganesan described Dimapur as a modern city and called for improved infrastructure, including a comprehensive drainage and sewerage system. He suggested that an effective underground network would enhance cleanliness and solicited cooperation between government departments and citizens to tackle drainage issues.
Referring to Dimapur as the educational hub of the state, the Governor underscored the importance of quality education that equips young people for employment. He encouraged schools and colleges to adopt the New Education Policy (NEP) 2023, designed to make the Indian educational system more inclusive and learner-centered. Expressing concern over the rising menace of drug abuse, especially among the youth, the Governor urged civil societies and law enforcement agencies to combat this issue vigorously, striving to prevent the influx of drugs into the state.
Governor La. Ganesan emphasized the significance of peace as a prerequisite for development and implored everyone to work together towards maintaining peace in the state.
Sachin Jaiswal, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, extended a warm welcome to Governor Ganesan, offering insights into the district's profile. He highlighted the need for additional flyovers to alleviate traffic congestion.
Representatives from various Civil Society Organizations, including Naga Council Dimapur, Business Association of Nagaland, Dimapur Naga Students Union, Dimapur Chamber Commerce, and President Naga Women Hoho Dimapur, also shared their perspectives during the meeting. The Civil Society Organizations addressed issues such as incomplete sports facilities, road infrastructure, trade regulations, and taxation concerns.
Heads of Government Departments in Dimapur district provided an overview of their departmental activities. The visit commenced with Governor Ganesan receiving a guard of honor at the DC's office premises.
