A one-day training program on Goods and Services Tax (GST) was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall, Wokha on 3rd Sept. 2025, for Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs), registered dealers, and other stakeholders. The event was organized by the Commissioner of State Taxes, Government of Nagaland, as part of its ongoing outreach and capacity-building initiatives

Deputy Commissioner Wokha, Vineet Kumar IAS, attended the program as the special guest. In his address, he commended the department for organizing the training and emphasized the vital role of tax collection in resource distribution, economic development, and strengthening government systems. He also highlighted the responsibilities of stakeholders in ensuring timely and accurate tax payments.

Assistant Commissioner of State Taxes (ACST), Kohima, M. Yanrenthung Yanthan, delivered the keynote address and led the first technical session. He spoke on the importance of GST registration, tax compliance, and the need for obtaining a Tax Clearance Certificate. He also noted the significant shift in the taxation framework following the introduction of GST in Nagaland.

Yanrenthung, along with the Program Officer (IT Branch), State Tax Department, Sanen Longchar, conducted detailed presentations and live demonstrations on Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) registration, return filing procedures, and issuance of Tax Compliance Certificates (TCC).

The welcome address was delivered by Assistant Commissioner of State Taxes, Wokha, M. Chibeni Lotha. In her remarks, she stated that such training and awareness programs are part of the department’s broader efforts to engage stakeholders and contribute to the national vision of VIKSIT Bharat 2047.

During the second session, Commercial State Tax Officer, Wokha, Ongshau Phom, spoke on registration and return filing procedures. M. Chibeni Lotha presented on Input Tax Credit, while M. Yanrenthung Yanthan covered topics related to payment, refund mechanisms, and tax-related offenses.

An interactive session followed, allowing participants from various government departments, trade bodies, and business communities to raise queries and seek clarifications on GST implementation and compliance challenges.

The training aimed to enhance understanding of GST procedures among stakeholders and promote a transparent, efficient, and inclusive tax ecosystem in Wokha District.
