A full day hands-on training on Electronic Voting Machines for district Nodal Officers of EVMs and VVPATs was conducted by the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Nagaland Kohima at Tapi Hall, Japfu Hotel on 10th November 2022.
Chief Electoral Officer, Nagaland V. Shashank Shekhar, IAS delivered the opening address whereby he stressed that the introduction of EVMs and VVPATs for elections are good initiatives by the Election Commission of India. He apprised that rumours and misconceptions regarding the misuse or tampering of EVMs cropped up but so far there is no real proof. He encouraged the Administrative Officer as Nodal Officers for EVMs and VVPATs to clarify doubts to the electors and if in case false allegations/ rumours come about, if necessary to take even legal action against the person/ persons. He also stressed that protocol should be followed while handling the EVMs and VVPATs.
Resource person for the hands-on training was Deputy Chief Electoral Officer & State EVM Nodal Officer, R. Mhathung. The topic covered by him were presentation on EVM/ VVPAT-Technical and Administrative procedures, EVMs & VVPATs Operational & Handling Instructions, Training and Awareness of EVMs & VVPATs and Hands-on demonstration on EVMs & VVPATs.
