The Department of Urban Development and Wokha Town Council organized a one-day IEC Awareness programme-cum- waste management training with a special focus on segregation at source and plastic waste management on 12th September 2022 at Town Hall, Wokha. The programme was conducted in collaboration with LIFE NGO Dimapur and Nicksungla was the resource person.

Around 206 trainees representing different wards and colonies, representatives from WDCCI, GBs, all colony sanitation committees, educational institutions, local taxi union, auto union, shopping malls, SHGs & ALF, and Anganwadi Workers under Wokha town took part in the IEC Awareness programme-Cum- training on waste Management.

While addressing the huge gathering at town hall, the resource person stressed the importance of proper segregation and disposal of dry and wet garbage waste for a healthy environment, because doing so helps in paving the way for concepts of waste management, like composting, recycling, and incineration, and also helps to reduce waste from landfill and eventually prevents land, water, and air pollution.

She advocated segregation of waste so that it can be treated scientifically at the source, she also appealed to the gathering to maintain a useful waste bin, containers, or a bin to deposit such waste so that it can be converted into rich organic compost.

AUDO Wokha, Kiniholi Kinimi, while welcoming the participants, said the purpose of conducting such workshops is to sensitize the public in sorting and separating waste such as wet and dry waste to facilitate recycling and correct disposal of waste because accurate segregation of waste is an important component for effective reuse of recycling system as well as it keeps our surrounding clean.
