In the early hours of September 9th, 2023, a devastating fire engulfed Peraciezie High School colony in Kohima, resulting in the complete destruction of AV Market, Suokhrie Market, and several residential houses, with partial damage to nearby commercial buildings. The cause of the fire remained unknown as of the time of this report. Approximately 113 commercial shops were tragically consumed by the fierce blaze.

In response to the emergency, seven fire tenders from various fire stations and agencies were promptly deployed to combat the flames and bring the situation under control.

The fire incident received a coordinated response from multiple line departments and organizations, including the Fire and Emergency Services, District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Kohima Municipal Council, District Administration, 1st Assam Rifles, D' Block, Peraciezie Traders Union, Kohima Village Youth Organization, and other local organizations.

The Kohima DDMA conducted on-site assessments to gauge the extent of damage. In a commendable display of solidarity and support, the DDMA extended immediate financial assistance to the affected house owners and displaced families, aiming to alleviate their immediate distress.
