The Independence Day was celebrated at Bhandari with Achumbemo Kikon MLA 50 A/C as special guest at the Bhandari Public ground.

He unfurled the National flag, took salute from the parade contingents and led the Pledge taking for Drug-Free Nagaland.

The National anthem was sung by students of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School Bhandari. The special guest read out the Independence Day speech. 

7th NAP Batallion, DBHSS Bhandari, NCC GHSS Bhandari, DBS class 12 students and 7th NAP unit School were the parade contingents led by ABSI M. Eshothung.

Highlights of the day's programme included folk song presentation by Akuk Ekhung Bhandari town, Special song presentation by Elvis O. Yanthan, folk song presentation by Eloe Hoho Bhandari and self defence demonstration by girls from GHSS Bhandari.

Later in the programme the special guest inaugurated stalls put up by Agricultural department, Medical department, Sub Divisional Industries (SDIC) Bhandari, Lotha Lower Range Baptist Churches women groups and various Self-Help groups from Bhandari sub division.
