Mon celebrated India's 76th Independence Day which marks 75 years of India's Independence on 15th August 2022 at Local Ground Mon with Minister of Transport, Civil Aviation &; Railways, P. Paiwang Konyak as the Chief Guest. The Minister undertook the Ceremonial Flag Hoisting, reveiwed the Parade and delivered the Independence Day speech.
The event witnessed March past by the following contingents, DEF Mon, 6th NAP, Village Guards,6th NAP Pipe Band, NCC (Boys), NCC (Girls), Wangkhao Government College, GHSS Mon Town (C), GHSS Mon Town (D), Student Police Cadet, Konjong Higher SecondarySchool(NCC) and Ex-Servicemen led by Parade Commander, Asst. Commandant, Lunso Quinker, NPS.
The event also witnessed performances by Atzing K Konyak, ABC (RHQ Mon), Mon Chamber Choir, Wangkhao Government College Students, The EaStory Project and Cultural Dance by Tangnyu Maikai Cultural Troupe, Monyin Union Mon Town and Mopong Hongkong Union, Mon Town. The comperes for the event were Asst. Professor, Manwang Konyak and Asst. Professor, Tolivi H. Sumi.
Meanwhile, institutional visits were carried out at District Jail by DPO (ICDS), District Hospital by Department of Fisheries, Old Age Home by District Welfare Officer and Langa Hill Children's Home by Asst. Director, Food & Civil Supplies.
Later in the evening, an exhibition football match was played between Officers Club Mon and Civil Societies and a Tug of War competition was held between the 11 wards under Mon town. "Beating of Retreat Ceremony" was done by the 6th NAP Pipe Band.
