The Central Nagaland Students’ Association (CNSA) held its 5th General Conference at IMC Hall, Dimapur, on June 5 and 6, 2025, under the theme “Power of Possibilities.” The two-day event brought together student leaders, tribal representatives, well-wishers, and officials from the three major tribes—Ao, Sumi, and Lotha.
Metsubo Jamir, Minister for Rural Development and SIRD, graced the programme as the Chief Guest. In his address, he lauded the efforts of the CNSA in organizing the conference and expressed his appreciation for the unity and resilience shown by the three tribes under the CNTC. He stated that the tribes have historically played a pivotal role in the socio-political and spiritual development of Nagaland, contributing significantly to education, governance, and missionary outreach across the state.
He also emphasized that education should be seen not as an entitlement, but as an empowering tool to build one’s future. He expressed concern over the growing mindset among youth of equating education with guaranteed benefits or employment, urging them instead to develop self-reliance, confidence, and entrepreneurial spirit. He encouraged the younger generation to move beyond the expectation of government jobs and to explore alternative avenues such as self-employment and enterprise development. He pointed out that government employment opportunities are limited, and that a progressive society must look beyond public service for sustainable livelihoods.
Jamir acknowledged the systemic disadvantages and deprivation faced by the three tribes over the decades but underlined that these very challenges have fostered a spirit of resilience, perseverance, and excellence among them. He called upon the youth to take pride in their identity and the legacy of service and sacrifice their tribes have demonstrated across Nagaland. He also highlighted the achievements of candidates from the region in national competitive examinations, citing them as examples of hard-earned success.
He also touched upon the importance of unity among the three tribes. He said that despite diversity, the shared values and mutual respect among Aos, Sumis, and Lothas should continue to be a foundation for collective progress. He appreciated the role of the CNSA in supporting organizations like the CNWA, CNTC which, he noted, were vital platforms for fostering leadership and representing the aspirations of Central Nagaland.
The inaugural session which was held on 6th June, 2025 with R. Sunep Pongen, President of CNSA, delivered the presidential address, where he reflected on the journey of the association since the last conference held in 2022 and expressed gratitude to the three federating units—AKM, LSU, and SKK—for their continued support and guidance. He highlighted the significance of the conference theme, “Power of Possibilities,” emphasizing that every individual holds the potential to transform challenges into achievements through unity, determination, and vision.
He acknowledged the remarkable success of candidates from the Central Naga tribes in national competitive examinations like the UPSC, attributing it to perseverance and collective strength. He also urged the youth to move beyond tribal and village-based divisions, stating that real progress requires leaving behind outdated mindsets and embracing unity. Calling the conference a convergence of ideas and cultures, he encouraged participants to seize the opportunity to collaborate and envision a stronger, more united Nagaland.
Greetings were also shared by Zuchamo Mozhui, Joint Secretary representing CNTC and Atoli Sema, President of the Central Nagaland Women Association (CNWA). Both speakers expressed solidarity with the CNSA and spoke about the importance of continuing the legacy of service, sacrifice, and unity across the tribes.
The event was chaired by Lirhonthung E. Kithan, President LSU and began with a prayer of invocation by Kuputoli A. Yeptho, Children Pastor, Toluvi Ghami Baptist Akukuhou. The programme concluded with a benediction by Imnatoshi Longkumer, Associate Pastor of DABA.
